On Thursday 18 April, the EU’s agricultural organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) identified seven key areas of action for the European Commission’s next term of office, as well as four enablers to get agriculture back on track, in order to meet the challenges facing agriculture and contribute to the need for renewed dialogue with the European institutions.
One of the priorities of this Copa-Cogeca ‘manifesto’ for the European elections in June is to reconcile climate change mitigation, nature conservation and agri-food production.
Another priority is to strengthen the competitiveness and profitability of EU agriculture while maintaining its production potential. Copa-Cogeca is calling on the Commission to put in place an ambitious and comprehensive European strategy for generational renewal in the agricultural sector, by incorporating a “socio-economic young farmers check” in all future legislation on agriculture, climate or the environment.
