The European Commission launched, on Thursday 18 April, the LIFE Calls for Proposals 2024 for projects with a total budget of €571 million (LIFE is the EU funding instrument for environment and climate action). This amount is available for projects in favour of nature, biodiversity, climate change mitigation, energy transition and the circular economy.

The calls are aimed at companies, academic institutions, national, regional and local governments and non-governmental organisations (NGOs) working in the EU specifically on nature conservation, environmental protection, climate change or the transition to clean energy.

The indicative budgets include standard action projects concerning, for example, nature and biodiversity, to the tune of €155 million, or concerning the circular economy and quality of life, to the tune of €65 million, as well as grants for coordination and support actions aimed at the clean energy transition, to the tune of €77 million.

In total, LIFE funding for the period 2021-2027 amounts to €5.4 billion and includes a clean energy transition sub-programme.
