EU and Member States announce €7.7 billion contribution to tackle global crises

On Tuesday 19 March, at the third edition of the European Humanitarian Forum, EU Member States and the European Commission announced humanitarian commitments totalling over €7.7 billion to tackle global crises in 2024.

This year, the EU managed to pledge €7.7 billion for 2024. Beyond that, we succeeded in putting a much-needed spotlight on humanitarian crises that are forgotten and underfunded, like in DRC, and delivered a clear message that we need to push back against the increasingly rash and gross violations of international humanitarian law, whenever or wherever they may happen”, said Caroline Gennez, Belgian Minister of Development Cooperation.

In Brussels, the forum brought together more than 1,400 representatives from the humanitarian community, EU Member States and third countries to take part in “strategic discussions” to jointly propose sustainable solutions to complex humanitarian challenges of today. (Original version in French by Bernard Denuit)
