European Parliament Committee on Agriculture calls for easing of traceability measures for new genomic techniques

On Monday 11 December, the European Parliament’s Committee on Agriculture adopted (34 votes in favour, 11 against and 1 abstention) its opinion on the proposal to regulate the use of new genomic techniques (NGTs), which includes a reduction in the traceability measures applied to these plants (see EUROPE B13308A14)

MEPs are in favour of a ban on all patents filed for NGT plants, whether they are similar to conventional plants (category 1) or not (category 2).
