12/12/2023 (Agence Europe) – In a statement issued by the European External Action Service (EEAS), the European Union has expressed growing concern about the “provocative and dangerous” behaviour of Chinese coastguards and maritime militias towards Philippine vessels in the South China Sea on 9 and 10 December. “The series of unjustified and threatening actions that have taken place in recent months is undermining regional security and reinforcing mistrust, which is affecting the entire international community”, the statement said. The EU calls for disputes between countries in the South China Sea to be resolved by peaceful means and therefore calls on all countries to respect the United Nations Charter, the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and other relevant international rules and regulations for the safety of life at sea.
