The European Commission announced, on Tuesday 12 December, that it had adopted the 2024 work programme of the European Innovation Council (EIC).
This programme provides funding opportunities worth more than €1.2 billion in 2024 for highly innovative SMEs and start-ups, particularly in strategic technologies.
€256 million are earmarked to fund EIC Pathfinder grants dedicated to multidisciplinary research teams wishing to test a visionary idea.
€94 million will go towards the EIC Transition programme, which is aimed at project leaders wishing to transform research results into innovation opportunities.
Finally, €675 million will be used to fund grants under the EIC Accelerator for start-ups and SMEs wishing to develop and scale up innovations with the potential to create new markets or stimulate existing ones.
The Commission also announced that it had completed the restructuring of the EIC Fund, in particular by temporarily transferring its shares in the EIC Fund to the European Investment Bank (EIB) starting 1 January 2024.
The Commission stated that it would retain control over the Fund’s investment policy and emphasised that the €585 million allocated to the EIC Fund in 2024 should make it possible to mobilise more than €2 billion in investment for the companies benefiting from EIC investments.
