29/11/23 (Agence Europe) – By adopting (23 votes in favour, one against and one abstention), on Wednesday 29 November, the draft report by João Pimenta Lopes (The Left, Portuguese) on the Protocol on the implementation of the Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and Kiribati, the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries supported the conclusion of this six-year fisheries agreement (see EUROPE 13263/19). The protocol allows EU vessels to fish for tuna in Kiribati’s waters and provides fishing opportunities for four tuna seiners, with access to Kiribati’s waters for 160 days a year (additional days can be made available each year to vessels from EU Member States on request).
