29/11/23 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 29 November, with 23 votes in favour, none against and one abstention, the European Parliament’s Committee on Fisheries adopted the draft report by Clara Aguilera (S&D, Spanish) approving the European Parliament/EU Council compromise text on updating the rules of the multi-annual management plan for bluefin tuna in the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean (recommendations of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas, ICCAT). The main changes concern the definitions of fish aggregating devices (FADs) and the capacity of the longline and purse seine fleets (taking into account the catch limits for tropical tuna).
