29/11/2023 (Agence Europe) – In an analysis published on 23 November, the Bruegel think-tank outlined the keys to success for COP28, which begins on 30 November in Dubai (see other news). Key factors include stakeholders integrating climate considerations into their economic and financial decisions, stepping up decarbonisation commitments by 2030, and agreeing on a fixed date for phasing out non-mitigable fossil fuels. Developed countries must support new global targets for renewable energy and energy efficiency, with solid financial commitments, and meet the $100 billion climate financing target set in 2009. Bruegel also insisted on the approval of the Transition Committee’s proposals, the establishment of an ambitious objective on adaptation and the alignment of agricultural policies with nationally determined contributions.
