28/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 September, the Council of the European Union announced the appointment of Miranda de Meijer of the Netherlands as new prosecutor at the European Public Prosecutor’s Office (EPPO). Her term of office, which takes effect on 1 November, will last 6 years, with no possibility of renewal. This appointment comes as part of the partial renewal of the EPPO College, in accordance with the transitional rules established for the first term of office following the creation of this institution. European Prosecutors from a third of the Member States, determined by drawing lots, were to hold a non-renewable three-year term of office in order to stagger renewal. Seven European prosecutors have already been appointed, on 27 June and 20 July (see EUROPE 13227/43). With this decision, the Council completes the process of appointing the eight European prosecutors involved in the partial replacement. (NP)
