28/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – In the run-up to ‘World Heart Day’, which will be celebrated on Friday 29 September, the European Commissioner for Health, Stella Kyriakides, pointed out that cardiovascular disease has a serious impact on health, societies and economies the world over. “It is the leading cause of death in the European Union and in the world. Each year in the EU, more than 6 million people suffer from heart conditions and more than 1.8 million people die from heart disease”, said the Commissioner in a statement (https://aeur.eu/f/8sf ). Cardiovascular diseases considerably reduce life expectancy and are responsible for 77% of the disease burden in Europe. She pointed out that the work underway, in collaboration with the Member States and civil society, aims to raise public awareness of cardiovascular health and the measures that can be taken to live healthier lives.
