On Thursday 28 September in Brussels, the ministers and representatives of the interior ministers of the Member States of the European Union and the ministers of 14 Latin American countries adopted a joint declaration on the joint fight against organised crime, particularly drug trafficking, following a lunch devoted to this issue.
More specifically, the ministers met within the framework of CLASI, the Regional Forum for High-Level Dialogue in Latin America, which aims to coordinate public security policies.
This Forum aims to coordinate and coordinate joint efforts on criminal threats such as drug production and trafficking, trafficking in migrants and human beings, and arms trafficking.
The joint declaration adopted on 28 September underlines the mutual commitment to developing the capacity to combat all these crimes, in particular by increasing cooperation between the relevant agencies in the two regions, EMPACT for the EU and the OAPs for Latin America.
The declaration also calls on both parties to coordinate their mutual warning systems, the Latin American Documentation and Threat Assessment Instrument (IDEAL) and theEuropean Union Serious and Organised Crime Threat Assessment (SOCTA).
Both parties reiterate their willingness to exchange information on joint operations (for example on financial investigations or political measures against drugs) and call for regular meetings, including at senior official level.
