28/09/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 28 September in Paris, the EU’s agricultural organisations and cooperatives (Copa-Cogeca) and the European Space Agency (ESA) signed a first joint Memorandum of Intent entitled ‘Supporting the Sustainable Transformation of the Agri-food Sector through Digitalisation and Space’. ESA and Copa-Cogeca are joining forces to meet the challenges facing the agricultural sector, with the aim of providing services that enable farmers and agricultural cooperatives to improve the management of natural resources, optimise decision-making tools and monitor environmental performance, while generating profits. Satellite communications provide connectivity around the world, Earth observation data can be used to monitor crop conditions and help adapt to climate challenges, and satellite navigation can be used to track the precise position of people and vehicles.
