On Thursday 28 September, the European Commission launched new calls for proposals under the Digital Europe programme for the 2023-2024 period to support the development of the Common European Tourism Data Space.
These calls will receive €8 million in subsidies, which should be used in particular to stimulate the sharing of data between tourism businesses, destinations and public authorities.
This, the Commission believes, will enable stakeholders to “better understand what tourists are looking for” and to “adapt offers accordingly or predict when tourists are likely to come, enabling them to plan ahead”.
A further €4 million will be devoted to the deployment of a data space for cultural heritage. This budget will be used mainly for projects that make use of new technologies, in order, among other things, to make “high-quality European cultural content, particularly in 3D, more widely available”, says the Commission.
The Digital Europe programme has a budget of €7.6 billion for the 2021-2027 period and also focuses on supercomputers (see EUROPE 13205/17), artificial intelligence (see EUROPE 13253/4) and cyber security (see EUROPE 13224/19). (Original version in French by Thomas Mangin)
