Left/right divide in European Parliament on position to adopt towards Havana

In the European Parliament, the S&D, Greens/EFA and The Left groups believe that the EU/Cuba cooperation agreement should serve as a platform for discussing all political issues, including respect for human rights, and for supporting the island’s economic development.

Conversely, the EPP, Renew Europe and ECR groups are calling for the implementation of the bilateral agreement in force since 2017 to be suspended, convinced that the EU27 must not collaborate with “a dictatorship” allied...
