EU Council adopts its negotiating mandate for a new European law on liability for defective products

On Wednesday 14 June, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU approved the EU Council’s negotiating mandate for a new European law on product liability. 

In September 2022, the European Commission had presented a revision of the Product Liability Directive, adopted in 1985, in order to update the rules on civil liability and adapt them to the digital age and to the circular economy(see EUROPE B13031A10).
