On Wednesday 14 June, the Permanent Representatives of the twenty-seven Member States to the EU backed by a large majority the provisional agreement reached the previous week between European Parliament and Council negotiators (see EUROPE 13195/1).
It is now up to the MEPs to approve the text so that the Council can formally adopt it and it can enter into force.
The EU will then be able to impose retaliatory measures on third countries that exert economic coercion on it or one of its Member States.
This will mark an important step in the implementation of the EU’s new trade policy, which is intended to be more reactive and forceful against non-competitive practices. (Original version in French by Léa Marchal)
