14/06/2023 (Agence Europe) – At the opening of the plenary session on Monday 12 June, the European Parliament’s Bureau agreed to the lease of the Osmose building in Strasbourg, constructed from 2019 to 2021 at the behest of the local and regional authorities, who were hoping that the institution would buy it. As this purchase did not materialise, despite an exclusivity reserved for the institution until April 2022, the French State and the local authorities proposed last May to buy the 15,000 m² building themselves, equipped with meeting rooms, translation equipment, etc., in order to rent it to the European Parliament. The Bureau has just given the green light to this proposal, which provides for a long lease of €700,000 per year. However, the agreement still has to be validated by the Committee on Budgets, which could examine the dossier at the end of June/beginning of July. (VL)
