United States and EU reaffirm their commitment to decarbonising transport

31/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 22 May, the European Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vălean, and the United States Secretary of Transportation, Pete Buttigieg, met to take note of the agreement reached within the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) to stabilise and strengthen the Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) (see EUROPE 13088/36). “The EU and the United States share a strong commitment to working together to address the most pressing challenges facing our transportation systems”, Mr Buttigieg stressed in a press release on Tuesday 30 May. Together with Ms Vălean, they pledged to work together to prepare the Third Conference on Aviation and Alternative Fuels (CAAF/3) by supporting the adoption of ambitious measures. They also agreed to redouble their efforts to decarbonise shipping. (AD)
