31/05/23 (Agence Europe) – The ambassadors of the Member States of the European Union (Coreper II) did not, in the end, endorse the conclusions on the security of LGBTQI people (see EUROPE 13190/4) on Wednesday 31 May. According to our information, Hungary and Poland abstained, as they did not have a firm position on the text. Its examination has therefore been postponed until the next Coreper II meeting on Wednesday, in the hope that it will be forwarded to ministers for the ‘Justice and Home Affairs’ Council (JHA) on 9 June. Drafted by the Swedish Presidency of the Council, the text calls on the Member States to combat all forms of violence, including online violence, against this community and asks European bodies to take respect for the fundamental rights of LGBTQI people into account in their external actions.
