31/05/23 (Agence Europe) – The Women’s World Cup is struggling to find a broadcaster. In a joint letter published on Wednesday 31 May, five European sports ministers called on the Fédération Internationale de Football Association (FIFA) and broadcasters to “find ways and means to ensure that the competition is promoted fairly”. France, Germany, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom are concerned about “the lack of allocation of television rights for the broadcasting of matches” in their countries. According to several sports media, the television channels, fearing low ratings, would not like to pay the large sum requested by the federation. In addition to the popularity of women’s sporting events, the broadcasters have also raised the issue of the significant time difference, given that the competition will be held from 20 July to 20 August 2023 in Australia and New Zealand.
