The High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, inaugurated the EU civilian CSDP mission EUPM Moldova in Chișinău on Wednesday 31 May. This mission was officially launched on 22 May.
At the ceremony, Mr Borrell stressed that “Moldova is not alone”. He recalled the three pillars of the mission: - contribute to strengthening the crisis management capabilities of Moldova’s security sector; - increase the country’s resilience to counter hybrid threats, information manipulation and foreign interference, “a danger that is increasing everywhere and putting democracies at risk”; - develop a project unit to offer targeted support to help Chișinău in the two previous areas.
In addition, the High Representative officially handed over medical and technical equipment to Moldova’s armed forces, funded under the European Peace Facility (EPF).
On 4 May, the EU announced €40 million in aid to the Moldovan armed forces via the EPF (see EUROPE 13175/25). (Original version in French by Camille-Cerise Gessant)
