02/05/2023 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission adopted, on Friday 28 April, proposals for a new Sustainable Fisheries Partnership Agreement between the EU and Madagascar. It covers a period of 4 years from the date of the provisional application (1 July 2023). The EU fishing opportunities for highly migratory fish are: 32 tuna seiners, 13 surface longliners with a tonnage greater than 100 GT, 20 surface longliners with a tonnage less than or equal to 100 GT, and ‘support vessels’. The annual EU financial contribution is €1.8 million on the basis of: - a reference tonnage of 14,000 tonnes, for which an annual access fee of €700,000 has been set; - support for the development of Madagascar’s fisheries sector policy (€1.1 million).
