Agreement at UN level on international treaty on protection of high seas

On Saturday 4 March, Member States of the United Nations (UN) reached an agreement on the first international treaty to protect the high seas, aimed at countering threats to ecosystems vital to humanity.

“The ship has reached the shore”, announced the chair of the international conference, Rena Lee, at the UN Headquarters in New York.
