06/03/2023 (Agence Europe) – The finance ministers of the euro area countries considered, in a statement on Monday 6 March, that the Latvian draft budgetary plan is "in line with the fiscal guidance for 2023” of the EU Council. In their view, “the contribution of nationally financed current expenditure to the overall fiscal stance is expected to be broadly neutral”, although “compliance risks would arise should Latvia adopt additional energy support or other deficit-increasing measures”. Similarly, the Eurogroup also notes that the overall fiscal policy stance in Latvia “is estimated to be expansionary in a situation of high inflation, driven however by higher investment”.
