06/03/23 (Agence Europe) – The EPP Group in the European Parliament has decided not to join the European Parliament Committee on Civil Liberties’ mission to Greece to assess the state of the Rule of law there, it said in a statement on Monday 6 March. Members of this mission, which notably includes Dutch MEP Sophie in ’t Veld (Renew Europe) and French MEP Gwendoline Delbos-Corfield (Greens/EFA), plan to meet with Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis (EPP), the Data Protection Authority, the Greek Asylum Service and representatives of Frontex from 6 to 8 March. The EPP Group said the mission was “not appropriate” after the Larissa train disaster that killed 57 people, and deplored the “refusal” of other groups to postpone the mission, it also said. (SP)
