20/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Friday 20 May that it had approved the addition of ‘Cancoillotte’ from France to the register of protected geographical indications (PGIs) protected at EU level. ‘Cancoillotte’ is a cheese speciality obtained by melting a cheese made from skimmed cow’s milk called ‘metton’, with butter and water added, and produced in the Franche-Comté region. ‘Cancoillotte’ is often eaten with other regional specialities such as ‘Saucisse de Morteau’ or ‘Saucisse de Montbéliard’. This new designation is added to the list of 1,578 agricultural products already protected at EU level and available in the eAmbrosia database. (LC)
