Brussels, 20/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Friday 20 May the mobilisation of €22 million in additional humanitarian aid for Rohingya refugees and their host communities in Bangladesh and for vulnerable people affected by the conflict in Myanmar/Burma. This emergency aid will cover vital needs - the protection of people, food and nutritional aid, health and shelter. “The Rohingya crisis has reached an unprecedented scale and continued international solidarity is crucial to address the ongoing humanitarian needs”, stressed EU Commissioner Janez Lenarčič. On the same day, Filippo Grandi, the UN High Commissioner for Refugees, flew to Bangladesh after his working lunch in Brussels with EU development ministers (see other news in this newsletter). (AN)
