20/05/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Friday 20 May, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU adopted a mandate to negotiate with the European Parliament on the proposal for a decision on the obligation to notify offset requirements for CORSIA (Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation). CORSIA is a global mechanism for reducing CO2 emissions from international aviation adopted by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) in 2018. The objective of the decision is to enable Member States to fulfil their obligation to notify EU-based operators of their clearing requirements starting from the first deadline of November 2022. The EU Council Presidency will be able to start negotiations with the European Parliament, which is expected to adopt its position at the plenary session on 6-9 June. (CG)
