On Tuesday 12 April, the European Commission launched a targeted public consultation to evaluate the adequacy of EU rules on money market funds.
An important source of short-term financing for businesses and government entities, these investment funds invest primarily in short-term debt securities issued by banks, businesses, governments and others.
The objective of the consultation is to obtain feedback on the functioning of the regulatory framework and to collect economic and other data on the use of these monetary funds. The information gathered through this consultation will complement the input provided by the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) and the European Systemic Risk Board (ESRB), as well as information gathered through other international initiatives.
The consultation is aimed at stakeholders, in particular investors and money market fund managers, to understand the impact of the existing rules on their business. The consultation questions focus on the effectiveness, efficiency, relevance and consistency of the current Regulation (2017/1131), as well as on the reasons why industry players invest in EU money market funds.
The consultation is open until Friday 13 May. For more information: https://aeur.eu/f/188 (Original version in French by Anne Damiani)
