The European Commission adopted a proposal on Wednesday 16 February to implement the total allowable catches (TACs) and quotas agreed for 2022 between EU countries and the United Kingdom in the EU legal order.
The proposal amends the 2022 regulation on fishing opportunities in the Atlantic, Channel and North Sea (see EUROPE 12879/25).
On 21 December 2021, the EU reached an agreement with the UK to set a large number of TACs for 2022 for species under shared management (see EUROPE 12859/13). The proposal includes all agreed TACs and some of the rules, notably on quota trading between the EU and the UK.
In addition, the proposal amends the TAC 2022 regulation by updating the fishing possibilities for anchovy in Bay of Biscay waters. The TAC in question is 33,000 tonnes for this year, to be divided between Spain (29,700 tonnes) and France (3,300 tonnes).
