16/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 16 February the European Parliament adopted its position, including amendments tabled by the EPP group, on the proposal detailing the rules of the Union’s bluefin tuna catch documentation programme. The report by Gabriel Mato (EPP, Spain) was adopted with 667 votes in favour, 3 against and 22 abstentions. The aim of the text, which has been referred to the European Parliament Committee on Fisheries for negotiation with the EU Council, is to implement the conservation and management measures adopted by the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT) under its Bluefin Tuna Catch Documentation Scheme, which aims to identify the origin of all bluefin tuna.
