16/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On Wednesday 16 February, MEPs adopted the recommendations of the report by Markus Ferber (EPP, Germany) on the impact of national tax reforms on the EU economy (see EUROPE 12891/16). With 469 votes in favour, 94 against and 137 abstentions, the European Parliament calls for greater tax harmonisation between Member States, either through better coordination or through EU action. A common European approach to tax incentives would be preferable to avoid distortions within the single market, the report says. Parliament also calls on the Commission to carry out a thorough impact assessment and to include effective provisions to combat tax evasion and base erosion. It also calls on the Commission to set up an Erasmus exchange programme for tax officials to encourage the adoption of best practice. (AD)
