01/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – On the anniversary of the coup in Myanmar on 1 February 2021, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, issued a joint statement with the Foreign Ministers of Albania, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Norway, South Korea, Switzerland, the United Kingdom and the United States to honour “those who have lost their lives over the past year”. As he had done the day before in a statement (see EUROPE 12880/22), Mr Borrell called for an end to the violence in Myanmar. The signatories of the declaration also added that they support the five-point consensus of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) (see EUROPE 12706/18) and the efforts of the ASEAN Special Envoy for a peaceful resolution of the conflict.
