01/02/2022 (Agence Europe) – In December 2021, the seasonally-adjusted unemployment rate in the euro area was 7.0%, down from 7.1% in November. The EU unemployment rate stood at 6.4% at the end of 2021, down from 6.5% in November. These figures were published by the Statistical Office of the European Union (Eurostat) on Tuesday 1 February. Compared to November 2021, the number of unemployed people decreased by 210,000 in the EU and by 185,000 in the euro area. At the end of 2021, 2.748 million young people under the age of 25 were unemployed in the EU. 2.222 million of these people were in the euro area, giving a youth unemployment rate of 14.9% in both the EU and the euro area, down from 15.3% in the EU and 15.4% in the euro area in November.
