IEA expects global fossil gas demand growth to slow in 2022

01/02/2022 (Agence Europe)After a strong rebound in 2021 due to the economic recovery following the lifting of restrictions to combat the Covid-19 pandemic, global demand for fossil gas is expected to grow at a slower pace during 2022, the International Energy Agency (IEA) said in a report published on 31 January. The Agency expects global gas demand to reach 4,148 billion cubic metres (bcm), up slightly from 4,109 bcm in 2021, due to high gas prices and slower economic growth. For Europe, the Agency expects demand to fall from 552 bcm to 527 (-4%), due to lower gas use for power generation. According to the IEA, global natural gas consumption rebounded by 4.6% in 2021, more than double the decline observed in 2020. See the report: https://aeur.eu/f/44 (DG)
