31/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – One year after the military coup in Myanmar, the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, expressed concern about the “continued escalation of violence” in the country in a statement on 31 January. He reiterated the EU’s firm position, which condemns “in the strongest terms continuing grave human rights violations including torture, sexual and gender based violence, the continued persecution of civil society, human rights defenders and journalists, attacks on the civilian population, including ethnic and religious minorities by the Myanmar armed forces”.
