31/01/2022 (Agence Europe) – The High Representative of the Union, Josep Borrell, who was due to visit Mozambique on 30-31 January after Kenya (see EUROPE 12878/3), cancelled his visit after a member of his delegation tested positive for Covid-19 in Kenya, the European External Action Service spokesperson, Nabila Massrali, said on 31 January. By telephone, Borrell was able to apologise to the President of Mozambique and to the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation, she said. Charles Fries, the Deputy Secretary for CSDP and Crisis Response, represented Mr Borrell in a meeting with the Minister of Defence in Maputo. “They were able to discuss bilateral cooperation, including EU assistance in training national forces”. Mr Fries also visited the EUTM Mozambique military training camp. (AN)
