20/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Thursday 16 September, the European Commission launched a €7 billion call for proposals under the Connecting Europe Facility (see EUROPE 12782/10). The envelope is to be used to finance infrastructure projects for European transport, in order to contribute to increasing the sustainability of the network. “The projects funded under the call will contribute to the creation of an efficient and interconnected multimodal transport system for both passengers and freight”, said the Commissioner for Transport, Adina Vãlean. The various projects will also be “suitable for both civilian and defence use”, she added. This call for proposals is part of the objectives set out in the European Green Deal, which aims to achieve a 90% reduction in transport emissions by 2050. (TM)
