20/09/2021 (Agence Europe) – The Federation of the European Sporting goods Industry (FESI) sent an open letter to the European Commission and MEPs on Friday 17 September, calling for more EU coordination to avoid “another catastrophic season” for the winter sports industry. “In total, the ski sector has lost around 50% of turnover during the period 2020-2021. The winter season 2021/22 will now be a decisive one for many companies”, says FESI. The federation, supported by some 30 signatories, calls in particular on the European institutions to guarantee the effective application of freedom of movement and to ensure that competitive disadvantages due to the multitude of national regulations are avoided. It also calls for no new containment to be considered as long as the number of hospitalisations and deaths due to Covid-19 continues to decline. (AC)
