10/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Parliament’s Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI), on Monday 10 May endorsed (52 votes in favour, 24 against and 4 abstentions) the provisional agreement on the ‘Climate Law’ reached by the co-legislators last Wednesday 21 April (see EUROPE 12703/1). Members of The Left and the Greens/EFA voted against the agreement, judging it to be insufficiently ambitious (especially regarding the 2030 climate target). The ID group MEPs also opposed it, while the ECR group members voted in a fragmented way. The vote of all MEPs is scheduled for the Parliament’s mini-plenary session on 23 and 24 June. The agreement will then still need to be approved at ministerial level, which should be a formality, as it has already been endorsed by the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper - see EUROPE 12713/25).
