05/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – As expected, the Member States’ ambassadors to the EU (Coreper) validated the interim agreement on the ‘Climate Law’ on Wednesday 5 May. The text was agreed on Wednesday 21 April between negotiators from the Council of the European Union and the European Parliament (see EUROPE 12703/1) and aims to make the EU’s climate targets legally binding. In addition to climate neutrality by 2050, it includes a target of a net reduction in the EU’s greenhouse gas emissions of at least 55% by 2030. In the European Parliament, the interim agreement will be voted on in the Committee on the Environment, Public Health and Food Safety (ENVI) on 10 May, before a vote by all MEPs at the end of June in a mini-plenary session. It will then have to be approved at ministerial level. More information:
