05/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Wednesday 5 May an initial allocation of €2.2 million in emergency humanitarian funding to WHO to help India deal with the outbreak of Covid-19. These resources will enable WHO to provide case management for 6 months and to build laboratory capacity for testing for the virus. The funding comes from the Emergency Toolbox - one of the Commission’s instruments for providing rapid humanitarian assistance in sudden and unforeseen crises. The maximum duration of an action is limited to 6 or 12 months. This funding is in addition to the medical supplies already offered to India by 15 EU Member States through the EU Civil Protection Mechanism, in response to the Indian authorities’ request for assistance (see EUROPE 12711/4).
