05/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – While Member States’ ambassadors in Coreper were initially scheduled to discuss the EU Council conclusions on Hong Kong (see EUROPE 12711/11) on Wednesday 5 May, this item was withdrawn from their agenda due to a block by Hungary. The country opposes the text, which concerns additional measures towards the City-State. According to an EU source, for Budapest, the conclusions would be counterproductive and not conducive to appeasement. When contacted by EUROPE, the Hungarian Permanent Representation to the EU had not yet responded by the time of going to press. (CG)
