Brussels, 10/05/2021 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 10 May, the European Parliament’s Committee on Budgets adopted its opinion on the Brexit adjustment reserve, including an increase in the amount of the reserve.
The rapporteur for the opinion of the European Parliament Committee on Budgets, Valérie Hayer (Renew Europe, France), welcomed “four major victories”: - an agreement that takes into account the dependence on the internal market for the calculation of aid; - an increase in the amounts allocated to Member States (+298 million for France; +75 million for Ireland and +50 million for Belgium); - the extension of the eligibility period for expenditure until 31 December 2023 to better take into account the long-term effects of Brexit; - the refusal to allocate funds from the reserve to the financial sector. Negotiations will now continue in the European Parliament Committee on Regional Development. On the same day, the Fisheries Committee (PECH) also voted an opinion on the reserve (see other news). The Committee on Regional Development (REGI) is expected to adopt its position on 25 May (see EUROPE 12705/10). (Original version in French by Lionel Changeur)
