GUE/NGL group in European Parliament considers how to better protect posted workers

The GUE/NGL group in the European Parliament organised a long session of reflection and exchange on how to ensure real equal treatment for posted workers on Thursday 15 October, in the presence of a posted worker, trade unions and MEPs Marc Botenga (Belgium), Leïla Chaibi (France) and Nikolaj Villumsen (Denmark).

During the discussions, the speakers focused on the study by Marco Rocca, a CNRS researcher at the University of Strasbourg. During his speech, the researcher called for the outright repeal of the Posted Workers Directive in order to move forward on the rules on posting under the Regulation on the free movement of workers.

This view was not shared by Marc Botenga, who preferred to replace it to avoid any new “Wild West”, as had been the case before the introduction of the first Directive in 1996. The latter, questioned by EUROPE, indicated that the phenomenon of pluriactivity constitutes a new “Wild West” as the posting of workers is increasingly regulated.
