24/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The European Commission announced on Friday 24 July that Professor Jean-Pierre Bourguignon would assume the interim presidency of the European Research Council (ERC). Mr Bourguignon, President of the ERC Chair from January 2014 to December 2019, will begin his term on Monday 27 July. The new ERC Chair is expected to take office in 2021. The post had not been filled since the much-discussed resignation of Mauro Ferrari last 7 April (see EUROPE 12464/18), after three months in the post. In addition, the Commission announced on Friday that it has renewed the mandates of two members of the ERC Scientific Council until the end of 2020. They are Professors Kurt Mehlhorn and Nektarios Tavernarakis. (AC)
