24/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – A flight from the EU humanitarian air bridge landed on 24 July in Guinea-Bissau with 45 tonnes of medical equipment and supplies on board, thanks to cooperation between the EU and Portugal, the European Commission announced on the same day. Three more flights will follow. The cargo, sent by Portuguese institutions and international organisations, included medicines as well as laboratory and anti-Covid-19 personal protection equipment for front-line medical personnel. This equipment will assist health care facilities in their coronavirus prevention and control measures. Other medical supplies are intended to combat other diseases, such as malaria and tuberculosis. Since the beginning of May, more than 30 flights from the EU Humanitarian Air Bridge have brought more than 650 tonnes of life-saving cargo to critical areas affected by transport restrictions. (AN)
