24/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – The official dates of the pre-COP26 in Milan are known: it will take place from 30 September to 2 October 2021, announced Italian Environment Minister Sergio Costa on Wednesday 22 July. This is the preparatory meeting preceding any Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP). It aims to provide a framework for informal discussions with a selected group of countries (between 35 and 40) in order to provide, to the extent possible, a political orientation for the subsequent negotiations. Two days before (from 28 to 30 September), the Youth for Climate event will also be held in Milan, during which nearly 400 young people aged 18 to 29 from the 197 member countries of the UNFCCC will develop concrete proposals on topics related to COP26. COP26, which was postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic, will take place from 1 to 12 November 2021 in Glasgow. (DG)
