13/07/2020 (Agence Europe) – On Monday 13 July, the German Presidency of the Council of the EU announced on Twitter that the inter-institutional negotiations - ‘trilogues’ in EU jargon - on the EU Regulation concerning the exercise of the Union's rights for the application and enforcement of international trade rules will be launched on Friday 17 July (see EUROPE 12522/24, 12495/17, 12464/2). The European Parliament, the Council of the EU and the European Commission will try to find an urgent compromise that will allow the EU to take action – on customs duties, quantitative restrictions and public procurement measures – in the event of a deadlock in trade dispute settlement procedures at the World Trade Organization (WTO) and in its free trade agreements.
